Newsletter - September, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

The new academic year has just started, and we are delighted to be able to teach in person. After spending months and months online, seeing our students is a complete joy. Unfortunately, not everyone is in Vienna yet, so we have implemented and are experimenting with hybrid teaching. This is far from ideal, but we’re making as much as we can to leave none behind.

Some of our recurrent professors are back with us: Julián Casanova, Gina Donoso, Monika Mühlböck, Andrew Arato, and Takis Pappas will be offering courses for our MA students during this year.

We’re also happy that our departmental seminar series is concluding after the summer break. Building from the online experience of last year, we will have a mixture of online and onsite seminars. Gabor Simonovits and Mariyana Angelova have a fantastic line up of invited speakers. On November 16th, we are honoured to host the Vienna Karl Polanyi Guest Lecture by Fred Block.

I would like to take the opportunity and request you to write an alumni testimonial about your alma mater. We would be keen on reading this testimonial from you and publish it on our website.

Last or not least, we are preparing some celebrations for our 30th anniversary. Stay tuned as more details will come soon.

With warmest regards,

Andres Moles
