Master’s Programs
The Department of Political Science offers two Master of Arts degrees, both accredited in Austria (EU) and the US:
Master of Arts in Politics (One-year Program)
This program is tailored for students who hold a four-year BA degree and wish to enhance their analytical skills in various political science disciplines. The curriculum includes courses in political theory, comparative politics, political economy, and more. Students are required to complete a Master’s Thesis of approximately 12,000 words, culminating in an oral defense.
Master of Arts in Politics (Two-year Program)
Designed for students with a three-year BA degree, this program offers a more comprehensive study in contemporary political theory, European politics, and diverse research methodologies. Students must complete additional credits and a Master’s Thesis of approximately 15,000 words, also concluding with an oral defense. This program prepares students for advanced doctoral studies.
Specialization in Religious Studies
Two-year MA students can opt for the Specialization in Religious Studies (SRS), earning a non-degree certificate alongside their MA degree. Coordinated by the CEU Center for Religious Studies, this specialization offers scholarships and a focused curriculum in religious studies.
Doctoral Program
Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science
The PhD program, administered by the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy, and International Relations, prepares students for academic careers in research and university-level teaching. The program fosters a collaborative academic community and offers tracks in Comparative Politics, Political Economy, Political Theory, International Relations, and Public Policy. There is also a Human Rights specialization. Doctoral candidates benefit from involvement in major research projects, conference participation, and workshops in collaboration with leading universities.
