Incoming Exchange Students

Who Can Apply?

Erasmus exchanges at CEU are available through bilateral agreements between CEU and partner institutions. Here are the key details for prospective applicants:

Eligibility

  • Bilateral Agreement: Exchanges occur only if a bilateral exchange agreement exists between the applicant’s home institution and the relevant department at CEU. Check the Department of Political Science's list of agreements for available opportunities.
  • Application Quality: Admission is not automatic. Applicants must submit an online application, evaluated on academic strength, application quality, and English proficiency.
  • Course Load: The Department of Political Science recommends enrolling in 24-34 ECTS per semester, with a maximum of 36 ECTS (subject to departmental approval).
  • Course Distribution: At least 50% of the courses must be from the Department of Political Science. Course offerings can be reviewed online at CEU's course catalog.

English Language Proficiency

  • Teaching Language: All classes at CEU are conducted in English and are discussion-based.
  • Proficiency Level: Exchange students must have English proficiency comparable to CEU’s degree-seeking students (generally Level C in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Accepted English Proficiency Certificates

  • Standardized test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, etc.)
  • Certificate from the home institution explaining the level per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Exemptions:
    • Native English speakers
    • Holders of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree taught exclusively in English
