CEU’s Department of Political Science and the Democracy Institute express their great concern with the recent developments at CIDE. We strongly believe that academic freedom is a pillar for modern, democratic, well-functioning societies. Academic freedom requires institutions that are independent of partisan politics, that have financial security, and whose internal procedures are respected. More importantly, teaching and research must be conducted according to academic standards and not dictated by the government.
We urge CIDE’s autonomy to be restored and respected so they can do what they do best: world-class teaching and research.
La Central European University, el departamento de Ciencia política de CEU y el Democracy Institute expresan su consternación respecto a los eventos de los últimos meses en el CIDE. Nosotros creemos vehementemente que la libertad académica es un pilar de las sociedades modernas, abiertas y democráticas. La libertad académica necesita instituciones libres de presión partidista, que tengan seguridad financiera y cuyos procesos internos sean respetados. Sobre todo, la investigación y la enseñanza deben regirse por estándares académicos y no estar dirigidos por el gobierno.
Instamos a que la autonomía del CIDE sea reinstituida y respetada para que puedan hacer lo que hacen mejor: investigación y docencia reconocida mundialmente.
