Ever wonder about the lives of faculty outside of the classroom? Please welcome our second guest – Robert Sata, Associate Research Fellow of CEU Political Science Department. ⠀

Scroll down to check out the weekly spot from our MA students Burcu Kısaç and Dauren Koptleuov: interviews, in which our dear faculty and staff tell about the other part of their lives – the one you’ve always been afraid to ask about :

Q: What are your hobbies and interests?
A: I guess it became a hobby that I fix laptops. Originally, it was more a necessity than a hobby, as a student you had no choice but try to fix when your laptop broke down so I slowly learned how to take things apart to replace an LCD or a CPU fan. My colleagues also brought their machines to me, and slowly I built up a collection – I think now I have like 10 laptops, most of which are not working, of course . Yet, I have an old Toshiba, a Pentium I, that works flawlessly, which most of you do not even know since it must be from the mid 90s.

Q: What is your life motto?
A: Not sure if it is a motto but I believe you always have to want more. I mean you should always have some goal to achieve, never to sit back.

Q: What is your favorite place in Vienna so far, if there is any?
A: Vienna has many places that are nice but since CEU moved there, I actually like that coffee house in the middle of the green on the way to school from the train station. If the weather is nice, it is a really good place to grab a coffee and just enjoy the sun.

Q: What is your ideal Friday night-out?
A: I guess it is more of a Friday evening-out, I like to catch dinner with friends. Some good food, nice wine, and catch-up with how things are going.

Q: If you had a chance to invite anyone to a dinner party, who would it be and why?
A: Gordon Ramsay. I guess we would either get really good food or enjoy hell-of-a-show!

Q: Describe yourself as a student.
A: I am afraid I was not the most hardworking student but I always paid attention in class as this always paid off. I did socialize a lot and I am lucky enough to have many friends from those years.

Q: List three benefits of choosing academia as your career path.
A: I think the best thing about academia is actually meeting new students and see their path through CEU. It is also nice to be able to follow your interests and have more freedom and autonomy than you can ever dream in a corporate job. I do enjoy to travel and meet really interesting people at conferences or just catch up with old friends in different parts of the world

Q: What one advice would you give to our students?
A: Try to make the most of what CEU offers! Studying is important but make sure you meet people and make friends, enjoy life. Apply for conferences, attend as many workshops, lectures as possible, try out yourself in new things.

Thank you very much for your time!
