Post-Communism in Africa Conference 2016

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 spelled the end of communism in East-Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. What happened next is often captured with the term "postcommunism". Different from regime change in other parts of the world, the postcommunist countries underwent a triple transition: political, economic, and societal. However, in the absence of comparative evidence it is difficult to know whether postcommunism is a regional phenomenon or truly captures the unique legacies of Leninist regimes worldwide. This conference seeks to fill that gap by focusing on the postcommunist experience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
