The Department of Political Science at CEU is pleased to announce the winners of the Arete Undergraduate Essay Competition. This competition was open to BA graduates and final-year BA students worldwide, providing a platform for young scholars to engage critically with pressing political issues. Participants had the opportunity to explore one of the following topics:
- The intersection of technology and human rights – cyberwarfare, big data, and privacy concerns.
- The paradox of populism – does "Power to the People" threaten democratic institutions?
- Digital democracy – can technology enhance civic engagement?
After a rigorous review process by our departmental committee, we are proud to recognize the following winners:
First Place: Ricarda Wertebach – “The people” and “the elite” are not homogenous. Neither are the populisms.
Second Place: Isadora Assuncao – Reclaiming Privacy: Confronting the Commodification of a Fundamental Right.
We extend our gratitude to all participants for their insightful contributions and congratulate Ricarda and Isadora on their achievements!
