New Publication: Return to Power: The Illiberal Playbook from Hungary, Poland, and the United States

We are pleased to announce that Professor András Bozóki has co-authored a new article titled Return to Power: The Illiberal Playbook from Hungary, Poland, and the United States. Published in Politics in Central Europe (Vol. 20, Issue 4), this study explores how illiberal leaders reshape the judiciary when they return to power.

Focusing on Hungary’s Viktor Orbán and Poland’s Law and Justice Party, the authors analyze patterns of judicial undermining during leaders' second terms. The study also draws parallels with Donald Trump’s first presidency and his post-office actions, raising concerns about potential threats to judicial independence in the United States.
