Project on Populism among Chief Executives in CEE, Baltic States and former Soviet Republics: Coded Data Available

October 1, 2013

We are glad to announce that the coding has been concluded and this coded data is available for the Project on Populism among Chief Executives in CEE, Baltic States and former Soviet Republics. All those interested in the database, please contact the Political Science Department or Dr. Kirk Hawkins.

Dr. Kirk Hawkins, Associate Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University, Utah, conducted a project on populism in cooperation with the Political Science Department. The project aimed to measure populism among chief executives in CEE, Baltic States and former Soviet Republics. Altogether 56 MA and PhD students from CEU participated actively in the project. First, the students were trained for coding populism in a 3-day training workshop, and later on they conducted individual coding off-site by selecting a sample of political speeches in local languages and coding these into English. Individual results combined into a common database are to be used in studies of populism of the region.
