CEU Programs Rank Among World’s Best 100 in Latest QS Listing

May 13, 2013

According to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings for 2013, CEU’s programs in politics and international studies, represented by the Department of Political Science, the Department of International Relations and European Studies, and the Department of Public Policy, are the 42nd best globally. CEU moved up in this subject from a ranking in the 51-100 category in 2012 and 2011 (QS does not assign specific rankings beyond 50).

CEU's global ranking at 42 equates to 4th place among Universities in continental Europe, and places it above Universite Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, City University of Hong Kong, and University of Oslo, among others. The ranking also equates to the No. 12 spot in Europe as a whole. CEU’s philosophy program also moved forward this year, stepping into the 51-100 ranking category from the 101-150 group in 2012 and 2011. The CEU program now ranks in the same category as the University of Warwick, University of Hamburg, Leiden University, and Pennsylvania State University. CEU is the only university in Hungary with programs among the first 100 in the 2013 subject rankings.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject were created in response to a demand for more detail than provided by the company’s overall rankings, which are released in the fall each year. In the subject rankings, universities are ranked based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research citations, with weightings tailored to each subject.
