What does the on-going electoral campaign signals about the state of democracy? What kind of institutional constraints can the American voters encounter? Which historical traditions does the Obama-Romney battle contradict and fit into? What does it mean to be a Republican and a Democrat today? What kind of implications can the political geography have on the final outcome? Finally, what is at stake for the world at the campaign?
Based on scientific research, the symposium attempts to answer the above questions, dispel common misbelieves and draw attention to the factors which decide the election in deed.

Mit mutat a demokrácia állapotáról a jelenleg folyó kampány? Milyen intézményi korlátokkal kell számolniuk az amerikai szavazóknak? Mely történelmi hagyományokba illeszkedik és melyeknek mond ellent az Obama-Romney párharc? Mit jelent ma Republikánusnak és Demokratának lenni? Mi a politikai földrajz jelentősége a végeredmény tekintetében? Mi a tétje a világ számára a küzdelemnek?
A szimpózium tudományos kutatásokra alapozva igyekszik választ adni a fenti kérdésekre, eloszlatni közkeletű tévhiteket és felhívni a figyelmet azokra a tényezőkre melyek eldönthetik a választást.
