The Department of Political Science focuses on several areas of political science, with a particular emphasis on comparative politics and political economy.
In the 2015 Quacquarelli Symonds' (QS) annual survey CEU’s programs has been ranked 29th in the subject of politics and international studies, which at CEU is represented by the Department of Political Science, the Department of International Relations and European Studies, and the Department of Public Policy. The ranking equates to the No. 7 spot in Europe.
The department is also ranked as one of the best in Europe in Political Science having received the 'excellence' ranking from the prestigious Center for Higher Education Development (http://www.excellenceranking.org/eusid/EUSID) in their 2010 survey. Altogether 52 universities were selected for this “excellence” group and only 4 departments from the region made it onto the list. Our department received five stars, toping 41 universities.
