Imre is a research fellow at the Department of Political Science, working on the EU's Horizon 2020 project ENLIGHTEN: European Legitimacy in Governing through Hard Times, the role of European Networks. He wrote his PhD dissertation on labor unrest in the public sector across four European countries: Denmark, Estonia, Hungary and Ireland. His broader research interests include political economy, industrial relations and comparative social policy. Imre is currently involved in the ENLIGHTEN project, exploring the legitimacy of healthcare reforms in crisis-ridden EU member states. He has published on the transformation of Hungarian labor relations since 2010 in Transfer; his article with Marta Kahancová on management reforms in Slovak and Hungarian hospitals has appeared in the European Journal of Industrial Relations.
